Privacy Policy
Send is built on a simple principle: we only access what we need, we never share what we collect, and you can delete everything at any time. Here's exactly how we handle your data.
What We Collect
When you use Send, we collect the following information:
- Google profile: Your name and email address from your Google account, so we know who you are and where to send reminders.
- Contact birthdays and names: We request read-only access to your Google Contacts. We only extract and store contact names and birthday/event dates. We do not access phone numbers, email addresses, photos, notes, or any other contact fields.
- Calendar events: If you grant calendar access, we read event dates to find birthdays and anniversaries. We don't read event details, attendees, or descriptions.
- Orders and preferences: When you use the gift wizard, we store your gift selections and preferences to improve future suggestions.
- Waitlist emails: If you join our waitlist instead of connecting Google, we store only the email address you provide.
- Basic usage data: Page views and button clicks with no personal identifiers. We do not use third-party tracking scripts.
How We Use Your Data
- Birthday reminders: We scan your contacts for upcoming birthdays and email you 7 days before each one.
- Gift suggestions: We use your preferences and past selections to curate better gift ideas over time.
- Preference learning: When you pick (or skip) a gift, we learn what you like so future suggestions improve.
- Service emails: Account confirmations, reminder emails, and important service updates.
What We Don't Do
This is just as important as what we do:
- We never contact your contacts. Your friends, family, and colleagues will never receive a message, email, or notification from Send. Ever.
- We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We never share your data with advertisers. No ad targeting, no profiling, no tracking across sites.
- We never modify your Google data. Our access is read-only. We can't change your contacts, calendar, or anything else.
- We never store sensitive contact info. No phone numbers, no email addresses, no physical addresses from your contacts.
Third-Party Services
Send uses the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Google (authentication and contacts access) — Google Privacy Policy
- Amazon (gift links and affiliate program) — Amazon Privacy Notice
- Resend (email delivery for reminders and notifications) — Resend Privacy Policy
- Handwrite.io (handwritten note service, future feature) — Their privacy policy will apply when this feature launches.
- Neon (database hosting) — Neon Privacy Policy
We share only the minimum data necessary with each service. For example, Resend receives only your email address and the content of your reminder emails.
Cookies and Local Storage
Send uses minimal browser storage:
- Session token: A secure cookie to keep you signed in. This is essential for the service to work.
- localStorage: We may store non-sensitive preferences (like whether you've dismissed a notification) in your browser's localStorage.
- No tracking cookies: We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking cookies.
Data Retention
We keep your data only as long as your account is active. Specifically:
- Account data (email, name, preferences): Retained while your account exists.
- Contact birthdays: Retained while your account exists. Re-synced periodically to stay current.
- Order history: Retained while your account exists so we can improve suggestions.
- Waitlist emails: Retained until you unsubscribe or we close the waitlist.
When you delete your account, we remove all your data from our active database within 30 days. Backups containing your data are purged within 90 days.
Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Delete your account: Go to your dashboard and click "Delete Account." This removes all your data.
- Revoke Google access: Visit your Google Account permissions to revoke Send's access at any time.
- Unsubscribe from emails: Every Send email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Request data export: Email us at hello@send-app.com and we'll send you everything we have on file within 30 days.
- Request manual deletion: If you can't access your dashboard, email us and we'll delete your data manually.
Data Security
Your data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon. All connections are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We follow industry-standard security practices, including regular access reviews and minimal-privilege access controls.
Children's Privacy
Send is not intended for anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- Right to know: You can request what personal information we collect, use, and disclose about you.
- Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information (see "Data Deletion" above).
- Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell your personal information. There is nothing to opt out of.
- No discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll notify you by email before they take effect. Continued use of Send after changes means you accept the updated policy.
